Commissioned by the Art Gallery Of New South Wales for the exhibition The National 2019 : New Australian Art, The Ongoing Remains: 3 Parts comprised sculptural, moving image and photographic elements presented at multiple sites thoughout the Gallery's Neo-Classical and Modernist buildings.
Part 1: The Emissaries, Keepers of our Stories comprised 26 unique state, intentionally misaligned casts based on the fifteenth century portrait of Niccolò da Uzzano, attributed to the Italian Renaissance master Donatello, installed in the Gallery’s Entrance Vestibule and Grand Court.
Part 2: Wit(h)ness, A Haunting, a 59.19 min single channel HD video projection representing in slow motion the grinding down of an earlier edition of the casts amid clouds of white dust. Accompanied by an original score by J.David Franzke, it was installed within the context of the Gallery’s nineteenth century sculpture collection in the Gallery’s Old Courts.
Part 3: Continuum, The Persistence of Being, (featured here) comprised three photographic portraits of selected cast residues following the production of Part 2: Withness, A Haunting. A selection of these portraits were installed on the level below on the the back wall of the last of the exhibition galleries.
Presented in this site-specific, distributed configuration, The Ongoing Remains 3 Parts became the first and last work experienced by visitors to the exhibition.
