Andrew Hazewinkel

Commissioned by the Art Gallery Of New South Wales for The National: New Australian Art 2019, The Ongoing Remains :3 Parts comprised sculptural, moving image and photographic elements dispersed thoughtout the Gallery's neo-classical and modernist architectural spaces.

These 26 casts result from an intentionally imprecise casting process. Working with a set of three-part moulds taken from the same subject Hazewinkel interchanges their individual component parts applying a process of intentional misalignment. Interchanging the component parts of the variant moulds he produces hybrid moulds for each  pour which are then further individualised by being subjected to differing localised external pressures. The intention is not to reproduce uniform copies, rather unique states which explore and exploit resulting processual anomalies.
