Andrew Hazewinkel chronographic sculpture

The stone at the centre of this composition is an antique, hand-drilled, weight designed to keep a fishing net at the sea floor; its surfaces bear the marks of extended periods of saline submersion. The long bronze chains and brass weights that cooperatively support the stone, come originally from a mechanical clock wherein they functioned, though gravity-driven power, as an engine, storing and releasing the potential energy required to drive the clock’s gears to keep the pendulum swinging and the human temporal register constant; and distinct from other temporal registers that we coexist in.
