Andrew Hazewinkel assemblage, working with found materials

Implicit in the title of this work are associations concerning the span of an individual human life. The word cradle has many meanings however it is most often associated with the care of new-born humans. The word cannon sits at the other end of the spectrum conjuring images of violence and warfare from which the end of individual human lives is never far away.

In this way it could be argued that that the work is anthropocentric in nature, that it is based in thinking that places human related concepts concerning time and its measurement at top of an imaginary (if not endangered) hierarchical tree. But there is something else at work here, a closer consideration of the materialities brought together in this work suggests a kind of cooperative interdependent blending of geological, metallurical and human temporal modalities.
