Four lead figures each cast in two pieces in single-pour moulds created in damp sand at low tide on beaches of personal importance to me on the Aegean island of Anafi.
Appearing both contemporary and ancient, these human figures carry with them the material residues of their places of origin in that geological materials that constitute the landscapes they are created in becomes literally embodied in them. Here beach sand, black volcanic sand, mica, shell fragments and small sea rounded stones have become embedded in the molten lead fishing weights that I used to create these figures.
Working with the sand casting process in the landscape, I create figures that explore relationships between places our bodies and our memories.
