Hazewinkel always been fascinated by the subtlety and speed with which atmospheric conditions change at sea, and (in his own words) the disappearance and reappearance of the horizon at sea. These seven intimately scaled images, photographed on medium format film, capture rapidly changing atmospheres arriving with dawn.
The word Asgelatas, meaning the radiant, is an epithet that is occasionally ascribed to the deity Apollo. This is however only the case in reference to the deity's connection with imposing marble monolith Mount Kalamos that forms the western tip of the Aegean island of Anafi, where it is believed an ancient healing cult devoted to Apollo once existed.
